RSA Security Token and RSA Security PIN: Explanation and instructions to activate, enable, change and disable the feature

The RSA Security Token is the most secure option to protect your account.

It is unavailable to order RSA tokens anymore. However, we are working to offer other security alternatives.

For information about our other security features, go here.

What is an RSA Security Token?

The RSA Security Token is a small device that, once activated, is unique to your account, upgrading your login security to 'two-factor authentication'.

This two-factor authentication is based on something you know (a password and PIN) and something you have (an RSA Security Token).

With the token enabled, you'll be asked to enter your password and PIN and the numbers displayed on your RSA Security Token every time you log in. These numbers change every 60 seconds, helping to defend against keyloggers and prevent unauthorized access to your account.

How do I activate my token and create an RSA Security PIN?

Log in to your account and follow these steps:

  • Website: Account → Settings → RSA Security Token → Activate RSA Security Token
  • Desktop: Settings → Account Details → RSA Security Token → Activate RSA Security Token
  • Mobile app: Account → Login & Security → RSA Security Token → Activate RSA Security Token
  1. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Enter the RSA Security Token serial number into the prompt and press 'Next'.
    • The serial number is on the back of the token and has nine digits.
    • The token's serial number is printed on the sticker and engraved onto the token.
  3. Read the explanation of the Passcode and press 'Next'.
  4. Create a four-digit PIN. This is the first half of the Passcode. Then press 'Next'.
  5. Enter your Passcode - this is the four-digit code created above, followed by the six-digit number currently displayed on the front of the window of the RSA Security Token:
    • RSA Security PIN (your secret PIN code, 4 digits) + Token code (the numbers on the screen of the token, 6 digits) = RSA Security Passcode (10 digits)
  6. After entering your token code, press 'Next' to activate your RSA Security Token.

Now that you've activated your RSA Security Token, you'll need to enable it to log in.

How do I enable my RSA Security Token?

Log in to your account and follow these steps:

  • Website: Account → Settings → RSA Security Token → Enable RSA Security Token
  • Desktop: Settings → Account Details → RSA Security Token → Enable RSA Security Token
    • Tick the checkbox next to 'Enable RSA Security Token'.
  • Mobile app: Account → Login & Security → RSA Security Token → Enable RSA Security Token

Then provide the information requested in the dialog box. This prevents someone from turning your Account Security Enhancements on or off without your permission.

Wait for confirmation that your new login settings are active. You'll also receive a message confirming the change of your login settings.

Can I change my RSA Security PIN?

Yes. Log in to your account and follow these steps:

  • Website: Account → Settings → RSA Security Token → Activate RSA Security Token
  • Desktop: Settings → Account Details → RSA Security Token → Activate RSA Security Token
  • Mobile app: Account → Login & Security → RSA Security Token → Activate RSA Security Token

After that, enter the serial number from the back of your token, choose your new RSA Security PIN, then press 'Next'.

Enter the RSA Passcode, including your chosen new RSA Security PIN.

Wait for confirmation that the server has accepted your change.

How do I disable the RSA Security Token?

To disable the RSA Security Token, log in to your account and go to:

  • Website: Account → Settings → RSA Security Token → Disable RSA Security Token
  • Desktop: Settings → Account Details → RSA Security Token
    • Clear the 'Enable RSA Security Token' checkbox, then select 'Apply'.
